Samsung Health comes pre-installed on Galaxy devices and makes a reasonable case for itself on that hardware. Step counting, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and workout logging all work smoothly when paired with a Galaxy Watch, and the data visualization is clean. For Samsung device owners who don’t want to set up a third-party fitness app, it’s a low-friction choice.
The cracks appear when you try to use it without Samsung hardware, or when you want the data to talk to other ecosystems. Health data export is limited, and integration with Google Fit or third-party services has been patchy. Some users on non-Galaxy Android devices report that automatic step tracking is unreliable. The app also requests more permissions than most fitness trackers need, and the privacy policy around Samsung Health data is not the most transparent.
The Play Store rating reflects genuine frustration from users who had a smooth experience on older Galaxy firmware and found things breaking after updates, or from non-Samsung users who find the app half-functional outside the Samsung hardware ecosystem.
Verdict: A solid fitness companion if you live in the Samsung hardware ecosystem, but a mediocre choice for everyone else.
