Our take

Ninja Kiwi built the tower defense formula everyone else copies, and BTD5’s roster and track count still deliver dozens of hours. The catch is that BTD6 exists and does most of this better, so newcomers should ask why they’re not just starting there.

What we like

  • 21 towers with two upgrade paths each gives real build variety
  • 50+ tracks plus co-op and Odyssey challenges add serious longevity
  • Freeplay mode and three difficulty tiers scale challenge for veterans and newcomers alike

Watch out for

  • No crossplay or newer mechanics, this is the older entry in the series
  • BTD6 exists and does most of this bigger and better, so returning fans may find it dated
Verdict: A genre benchmark that still holds up, worth it if you haven't already jumped to the sequel.
