Calling your hero Maino and having him rescue a princess from Boss Croc isn’t homage, it’s a direct trace of Nintendo’s IP with the serial numbers barely filed off. The scale, a thousand-plus levels, is legitimately impressive for a mobile platformer, but the whole identity of the game rides on borrowed recognition instead of its own ideas.
