About Speedway
A behind-the-car road racer of the sort arcades were full of: a looping circuit, a clock, and traffic to get past. You are not racing to a finish line, you are racing the timer, and every car you overtake is worth points. The one rule that shapes how you drive is that the grass scrubs your speed, so the racing line matters more than the accelerator does.
How to play
Accelerate, steer between the cars ahead, and pass as many as you can before the clock runs out. Keep off the grass, because it slows you down.
Controls
- Up accelerates
- Down brakes
- Left and Right steer
What makes it worth playing
- A looping circuit against the clock rather than a fixed lap count
- Rival traffic to overtake, which is where the points come from
- Going off the road onto the grass scrubs speed, so the line you take matters
- Straightforward arcade handling, no setup screens

Tips from playing it
- Lift off before the corner instead of braking in it. Braking mid-corner is what puts you on the grass.
- Overtake on the inside of a bend. The car ahead has to take the longer line and you get the pass for free.
- A clean lap beats a fast messy one. Two trips through the grass costs more than you gain by pushing.
Why this game is here, and what we changed
Chosen because Racing had one game in it. Like several in this collection it shipped no viewport tag and rendered at the 980px desktop fallback on a phone, scaled down and soft. Patched in our copy, and it now fills the screen at phone size. We host it on our own servers, so it loads straight into the page with no third-party ad code and no pre-roll video, and its MIT licence is kept alongside it. We played it through at phone size on 2026-08-27 before publishing this page, and the screenshots above come from that session rather than from the original project.
More on how we pick and fix these: what we changed in the open-source games and how we test a game.
