Top Bins
About Top Bins
Top Bins is our own football arcade, built around one shot at a time. A keeper is in goal and he tells you what he is going to do just before he does it. Read him, pick your corner, and chain your scores together. The top corners are worth the most and are also where the post is.
How to play
Tap one of the four corners of the goal to shoot at it. Watch the keeper before you commit, because a red tint shows you where he is about to dive and he fakes often enough to keep you honest. Score to keep your combo alive, miss and you lose it.
Rules of Top Bins
- The goal mouth is divided into zones, and the prompt under it reads Tap a zone until you pick one.
- A red tint marks where the keeper is about to go. He fakes often enough that the tint is a read, not an answer.
- The two top corners carry a gold double marker. They pay twice as much, and they are the ones the post can take off you.
- Three red dots under the header are the misses you have left in the round.
- The multiplier in the top right climbs with every goal in a row and drops back when you miss.
- A tier badge sits above the crossbar naming the band you are playing at. It opens on Rookie.
- The menu holds Shot Mode, Dribble, a Daily run and the Boots Cabinet, and the footer keeps a running count of your lifetime shots.
Controls
- Tap the corner of the goal you want to put the ball in
- Tap a top corner to go for the double, at the risk of the post
- Tap to skip the result and line up the next shot
- Tap the pause button above the goal to stop the round
What makes it worth playing
- The keeper telegraphs his dive, so shooting is a read rather than a guess
- Different keeper types that behave differently
- A combo chain that pays for consecutive goals
- Top corners score the most and are the hardest to hit cleanly
- A shot mode, a dribble mode, and a daily challenge with a fixed seed
- Unlockable boots in a cabinet you build up over runs

Tips from playing it
- Watch the keeper, not the ball. His movement starts before your shot has to be committed.
- The top corners pay the most, but a shot that hits the post scores nothing. Against a keeper who dives early, the low far corner is often the better expected score.
- Your combo is worth more than any single shot. When it is high, take the easier corner.
- The daily challenge gives everyone the same keepers in the same order, so it is worth replaying to learn the sequence.
Notes from building it
The keeper is the game. An arcade football game where the keeper dives randomly is a coin flip with nice graphics, and players work that out within about ten shots and stop caring. So ours telegraphs: there is a visible tell before the dive, early enough that a player who is watching can act on it and late enough that it is still a decision under pressure. Different keeper archetypes give the tell differently, which is what makes the read a skill you build rather than a trick you learn once. The combo chain exists to make that skill compound. A single goal is worth little, so the tension is never in the shot you are taking, it is in the eleven you have already scored and what you are risking by going for the top corner instead of the safe one.
